What is Detox?

So, what is Detox? Today we are exposed to thousands of chemicals that pose serious health risks. Our bodies are exposed daily to toxins that our bodies are unable to eliminate easily.

It is the process of neutralizing and eliminating toxins our bodies have accumulated. Our bodies do this naturally, and many believe we don’t need to do anything to make it happen.

Through my own discovery of ways our body shows us stress we are causing it, I slowly learned how to detox. The Detox Info I’ve learned is in this site, including the knowledge I acquired and the experiences I had along the way to regaining my health.

I show you the things I learned on my own, and I also show you some of the Naturopathic Remedies I made use of to help me on my way.

Years ago I asked myself the question, "What is Detox?"

When I began to detox, I was obese, had terrible allergies that made my life hell, and my blood pressure had become serious enough to require medication. I had constant pain, could not run even a few yards, and my eyes began to jump early in the evening from fatigue so I was unable to read, watch TV or work on my computer.

If you’re experiencing some of the horrific results of the toxic stress heaped on your body, you too should be ready to detox just as I was.

So, you ask, "What is Detox?" I'm here to show you.

My knowledge is here for you. I’ll help you on the path toward better health one step at a time.

What is Detox and What are the toxins that can affect our body?

Many years ago, it was true that our internal organs could neutralize the toxins we were exposed to. Today, however, there are so many new chemicals and toxins our bodies are exposed to every day that our system just can’t keep up. There are over 700 new chemicals created each year, and there are no laws that require those chemicals to be tested to determine how toxic they are.

These chemicals enter our system through the foods we eat and drink, anything that touches our skin, and even in the air we breathe! There is no way to escape this constant bombardment of toxins we are exposed to each day.

What is Detox and how do our bodies eliminate toxins?

Our bodies are equipped with seven avenues of elimination, each of which works very hard to eliminate the toxins that we eat, drink and breathe. Toxins can be escorted from the body by several organs.

Organs that eliminate toxins:

  • Liver
  • Kidneys
  • Colon
  • Blood
  • Lungs
  • Lymph system
  • Skin

First there is the liver, the kidneys and the colon. As food is digested, or other toxins assimilated such as the medicines you take or the pollution in the air you breathe, the nutrients your body needs to survive are extracted. The remainder is transported via the digestive tract or the blood to the liver, kidneys or the colon. This is a simplified explanation of the process, but eventually the unused, unneeded and the just plain toxic are sent out of the body in the form of urine or feces.

The act of breathing is another method your body has of eliminating toxins. As you exhale, some of the dangerous toxins that have entered your body are exhaled as well.

In addition to the blood, the lymph system works daily to extract and eliminate toxins from the body. If your lymph nodes are swollen and inflamed, you are a candidate for quite a number of nasty diseases. The lymph system must be kept in top condition to help it eliminate the toxins extracted from the cells.

And finally, there is the skin. The skin is our largest organ, and the last in the body’s line of defense against disease. The skin releases toxins daily as we sweat, and the more toxins you have in your system, the more you will have offensive odors. This is why it’s important to avoid using anti-perspirants.

But what is Detox? Imagine what would happen to your home if you plugged the sewer line and refused to allow the waste to be carried away. It would soon begin to putrify and smell bad, right? Well, the same thing happens if you stop up the pores and force the skin to stop eliminating toxins.

This is exactly why a sauna is such a wonderful method of eliminating toxins from the body. Open the pores and allow the body to sweat and the toxins literally pour out.

What is Detox and How do toxins affect our body?

When we are born, there are few toxins in our bodies. Although some toxins can be transferred from the mother to the infant, most are accumulated after birth. As time goes by, more and more toxins are absorbed into our system through the air we breathe, the food and drink we ingest, and some toxins can even be absorbed through our skin.

Over time, the organs become overloaded with too many toxins, and it’s necessary for our body to store some for later disposal. But as more and more toxins invade the body, the organs become overworked and are unable to eliminate the stored toxins.

Eventually, the built up toxins in our cells begin to cause a breakdown of bodily functions. This is how disease begins.

The most extreme is cancer. Our bodies always contain cancer cells, but as the systems of our body breaks down, the cancer cells can accumulate and become a problem.

Aluminum has been shown to be a contributing factor in breast cancer, in the case of anti-perspirants containing aluminum. Aluminum is also known to contribute to the dreaded altzheimers disease.

The body tries to insulate itself from these stored toxins by placing them in fat cells, where it keeps us safe. This is the main reason why obesity is becoming a major problem in the U.S. Studies have proven that as toxins are eliminated from the body, the body simply discards the fat cells that are no longer needed to store the toxins.

Because this phenomenon is so interesting, I've written about it on my page about Detox and Weight Loss. There you'll learn how to set out to detox and eventually the weight will just drop off with little or no effort. You may need to diet, but the effort is much more rewarding than it was before learning about detox.

As easy as that, fat fades away and a new, healthier body emerges.
