Kombucha Tea Detox

I had been hearing a lot of the health benefits of drinking Kombucha tea quite a bit recently and decided to try it out. I'm not much of a "new age" type of person but the tea and the history behind it was very intriguing and interesting to me.

I ordered a starter culture and as soon as it arrived I started my first batch. It was surprising easy to make and turned out quite tasty. You can purchase bottled Kombucha but in my area the closest health store is 20 miles away and the price is about $3 a bottle.

Making Kombucha consists of brewing a heavily sweetened, large batch of black tea and adding what is known as a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Yeast and Bacteria) The tea needs to ferment in a dark place for 2 weeks to a month depending on the environment. There are several good resources on Kombucha online so I wont get carried away with the process. The SCOBY can be used over and over again and a cycle can be set up so you can always have fresh Kombucha ready to drink.

Drinking Kombucha is very invigorating for me. I felt like a new person and had a lot more energy and a much better mood. I had mild diarrhea on the first few days. The taste can take a bit to get used too like any fermented beverage. I prefer it on ice and usually drink about 8oz a day.

I cant say for sure but I did have a pretty serious tooth infection that the antibiotics which I had been taking for two weeks didn't help. After two days of drinking Kombucha the infection was completely gone!
