MSM information encompasses a huge realm of thought including What is MSM, and the Benefits of MSM, as well as such subjects as MSM research and MSM supplements. Other pages on this site, such as those detailed above, give background MSM information.
Try detox diets, you'll find it's a very good way to get toxins out of your cells and on their way out of your body. Once you decide you need to remove toxins from your system, you will probably want to explore some of the great variety of diets that can be found on this site.
Here we discuss where MSM actually comes from. Because our bodies can’t make sulphur, we need to acquire it from outside sources. Those sources are all around us.
The plants and animals we share the earth with all contain sulphur. They need sulphur just like we do. But the fact that they, like humans, need sulphur doesn’t actually tell where it comes from.
Animals get sulphur from the plants they eat, or in the instance of carnivores it comes from the animals they eat. So… where do the plants get it?
Sulphur drops from the sky in rain. Yep, sulphur rains on us. Then when the rain hits the ground, it soaks into the ground and plants pick it up from the soil.
Ah, now we’re getting somewhere. Plants get it from rain. But, um, how does it get in the rain?
Here we go again. Sulphur is very water soluble, and it is taken up from the ocean.Ok. I won’t leave you in suspense any longer. The sulphur gets in the ocean from plankton. Plankton actually creates the sulphur in a compound released into the water.
In the water it becomes DMS (dimethyl sulphide.) Then DMS evaporates into the atmosphere in the form of a gas. The gas reacts with the ozone and ultraviolet light to form DMSO and MSM. In that form it condenses in the rain and falls to earth to be taken up by plants from the soil.
Yes, we get sulphur, in the form of DMSO and MSM from plants and animals. But here’s the catch, we can’t get enough of it to do us as much good as it should.
Our supply of sulphur is so limited in the foods we eat that we’re constantly deficient.
When you process foods and store them, most of the sulphur is lost. Even if you eat fresh produce from the grocery stores, it has been picked, held, transported and left on shelves for an indefinite period of time.
So, it’s best to eat fresh produce as soon as it’s picked? Yes, that’s the best way to ensure you get as much sulphur as possible from your foods. But that’s still not enough.
Preparing and cooking food further depletes sulphur from what we eat. So what do we do?
We need much more sulphur than the natural msm available in our foods, even if we eat the freshest foods available. So what then?
Sulphur should be supplemented to make certain your body gets an adequate supply. MSM and DMSO are natural ways to add sulphur to the diet. But because DMSO is not permitted to be sold as a dietary supplement, MSM is the best method of getting enough sulphur in the diet.
