What is MSM? It could take a book to detail all the benefits of MSM, and truly there are several on the market today. But it’s only necessary to know that you need sulphur as much as you need oxygen and water. Without sulphur, there would be no life as we know it.
So, what is MSM? MSM is an acronym for methylsulfonymethane, or dimethyl sulfone. It is organic sulfur, which occurs naturally in the human body, as well as all plants and animals. Sulphur can also be found in DMSO (dimethylsulphoxide) and DMS (dimethylsulphide.) These three forms are the way all sulphur gets into the bodies of all animals and plants, including humans.
Organic Sulphur, or MSM, is required by all types of tissues in the body including connective and other types of tissues. You can find sulphur in the hair, bones, skin, muscle, and nails. It’s also a component of human blood.
MSM is a great product for detox
Although our bodies can’t manufacture sulphur and must obtain it from outside sources, it is contained in every cell of the human body and is needed in compounds such as antibodies, hormones and antioxidants. It is also used to create collagen, enzymes and immunoglobulin.
As a supplement, MSM is a white crystal and it has a little bit of a bitter taste. You can take it in capsule form or add the flakes or powdered form to a little juice. I personally use it in my morning smoothies.
Combined with a green superfood meal replacement and some fruits and juices, MSM has no noticeable taste. And because MSM works better in synergy with vitamin C, a smoothie is a perfect medium for introducing this valuable nutrient into your body.
Check out my page on green smoothies to learn how to incorporate MSM into your diet using this easy method.
There are no known allergies or toxic reactions associated with MSM such as you’ll find with other forms of sulphur. This sulphur is not the same sulphur, called sulfites, used on salad bars. It’s also not sulphur dioxide, which is used in the process of drying some fruits. It’s also not the same as the sulphur in medicines, which cause allergic reactions in many people.
